Farm Bill Benefits New York's Hudson Valley

WASHINGTON –  The House Agriculture Committee passed the farm bill with the support of Congressmen Christopher Gibson (R- 19) and Sean Patrick Maloney (D- 18). The bill contains a number of provisions that will benefit New York's Hudson Valley region.

The bill includes Maloney’s Crop Risk Options Plan (CROP) Act that defends the specialty agriculture economy of the region as well as an amendment to help families and communities with flooding in the black dirt region.

Maloney pushes dam safety legislation

NEWBURGH – There are 400 dams in New York State that are classified as high-hazard and 100 of them are in Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney’s 18th District in Putnam, Westchester, Orange and Dutchess counties.

The freshman Democrat announced on Wednesday that he would introduce legislation next week to provide a new national dam safety program; the previous one expired in 2011.

Maloney asks White House to limit furlough impact

WASHINGTON – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, Cold Spring) asked President Obama and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to reduce the impact of sequestration on civilian employees.

The lawmaker’s request came in a letter to both officials in support of legislation to give more flexibility to the Pentagon on sequestration cuts and to shift more than $10 billion into Pentagon operations and maintenance accounts.

Sequestration could shut down Dutchess tower

TOWN OF WAPPINGER – If sequestration kicks in today, aircraft operations at Dutchess County Airport could be severely impacted as Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D-18) said on Thursday that the control tower faces shutdown. The tower is operated by federal FAA air traffic controllers and while Dutchess has no commercial traffic, it does have corporate helicopter service as well as corporate and creational aviation users.

Maloney said sequestration will negatively impact the regional economy.
