State And Oneidas End Long-Standing Dispute

ALBANY – New York State, Oneida Nation of Indians, Oneida and Madison counties have signed an agreement settling several long-standing disputes.  The agreement would grant the Oneida Nation exclusive rights to casino gaming in Central New York in exchange for sharing a portion of gaming revenues with the state and local governments.

Under New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan for legalized gaming, three casinos would initially be approved, which was going to be carved into six regions.

FAA Tower Closures Include Two in New York

The Federal Aviation Administration has decided which federal contract air-traffic control towers will close. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says the closures come because of required cuts under sequestration.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s FAA decided that 149 federal contract towers will close beginning April 7 as part of the agency’s sequestration implementation plan. The number is 40 fewer than initially thought, and does not include control towers that are federally staffed.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente

Last week, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, asked the County Board of Legislators to adopt a countywide ban on the compounds used in a new breed of drugs commonly known as "bath salts."   The move comes as law makers and law enforcement – on the local, state and federal level - struggle to find ways to fight the rapid rise of synthetic drugs. Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente spoke with WAMC's Ray Graf.
