Researcher Says Farmers Must Curtail Water Use

Ithaca, NY – A Cornell University researcher says the world's growing population coupled with diminishing fresh water supplies should force changes in the way farmers irrigate their crops. That could lead to increased markets for northeast crops, where water resources are abundant. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more.

NY Rules Changes Met with Mixed Reviews

Groups Censure Rape Treatment Guidelines

Albany, NY – Reproductive rights groups are banding together to condemn the Department of Justice. They take issue with the Department's recently-issued guidelines for treating victims of sexual assault, saying it's wrong to leave out emergency contraception as an option. New Tuition Proposal Would Lock Rate for Students

ALA Grades NY On Smoking Control

Albany, NY – The American Lung Association has issued, from state to state, report cards on programs to control smoking. Grading for New York runs the gamut -from "A" to "F". New York's failing grade comes in one of the four categories - funding; and it's an area in which many states did poorly. WAMC's Allison Dunne has more.

Key challengers to DNC chairmanship pull out, effect on Dean candidacy?

Burlington, VT – Former Clinton aide Harold Ickes and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk have decided not to run for chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Both were considered major challengers to the candidacy of former Vermont Governor Howard Dean.
