WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well now would be a good time to push, not punch, the panic button…

On the court last night in New York, Lebron James poured in 32 points, Dwayne Wade added 20, as the Heat rolled over the Knicks 87-70 to take a three-games-to-none series lead. The Knicks are setting all sorts of records that nobody wants, shooting a franchise-playoff record low 32 percent from the floor in dropping their 13th straight postseason game dating back to 2001.  Miami can finish off New York Sunday afternoon at the Garden.

L.A. Angels Pitcher Fires No-Hitter

Jered Weaver tossed the second no-hitter of the young baseball season by pitching the L.A. Angels past Minnesota 9-0.

Weaver struck out nine and walked one. The Twins never came close to getting a hit against the All-Star right-hander.

An 18-game winner a year ago for the Angels, Weaver joined the Chicago White Sox pitcher Phil Humber in the no-hit club of 2012. Humber tossed a perfect game against Seattle on April 21.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the Rangers and Capitals needed triple overtime…

Last night in Washington, D.C., Marian Gaborik's goal at 14:41 of the third overtime lifted the Rangers to a 2-1 win and to a 2-1 lead in the series.  Sound courtesy of the NHL.

Elsewhere on the ice, Pekka Rinne made 32 saves, pitching a shutout in Nashville’s 2-0 win over Phoenix.  The Coyotes still lead the series 2-1.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

No Rondo.  No Allen. Big problem for Boston, right?

Last night in Atlanta, with Rajon Rondo suspended and Ray Allen sidelined, the Celtics rode Paul Pierce, who poured in a game-high 36 points, as they stunned the Hawks 87-80 to even the Eastern Conference quarterfinal at one game apiece.  Sound courtesy of CSN.     

In Chicago, Jrue Holiday poured in 26 points for the 76ers, who shot a scorching 59 percent from the field, as they routed the Derrick Rose-less Bulls 109-92. This series is even at 1.

Clemens Perjury Trial Resumes after Five-Day Break

The Roger Clemens perjury trial is resuming after a five-day break. The prosecution's first witness, congressional staffer Phil Barnett, will return to the stand Monday after beginning his testimony last Tuesday.

Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner, is accused of lying to Congress when, at a hearing and deposition that preceded it, he denied taking steroids or human growth hormone.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the Clippers have opened their first NBA postseason in six years with an incredible comeback…

Yesterday on the court in Memphis, Nick Young drained three three-pointers during a one minute stretch to rally the Clippers, who trailed by as many as 27 points before closing on a 28-3 run, to knock off the Grizzlies 99-98.  The Clippers will play Game 2 Wednesday without Caron Butler, who broke his left hand in the second half.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the Rangers and Devils have both advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals…

Game 7 on the ice last night in New York, Marc Staal and Dan Girardi both scored, Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves, as the Rangers ousted the Senators 2-1.  New York will face the Washington Capitals in Round 2.

Meanwhile in Game 7 from Florida, Adam Henrique scored at 3:47 of double overtime, as the Devils eliminated the Panthers 3-2.  New Jersey gets the Philadelphia Flyers in the conference semis.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the defending Stanley Cup champions can no longer defend their title…

On the ice last night in Boston, Joel Ward stuffed a rebound past Tim Thomas at 2:57 of overtime, as the Capitals eliminated the Bruins, winning Game 7 2-1.  Sound courtesy of the NHL.  Washington won’t know its second round matchup until the conclusion of tonight’s games.  Two more Game 7s in the Eastern Conference:  The Rangers will host the Senators in New York, and the Devils will skate against the Panthers in Florida.
