Hurricane Sandy - American Red Cross

Many along the East coast are already feeling the effects of Sandy. Meteorologists are estimating damages could range between one and three billion dollars or more. The American Red Cross is preparing to provide disaster relief services wherever needed.
Anna Kate Twitty with the national Red Cross headquarters is on the ground on Long Island and joining us LIVE. Also joining us in the studio is Gary Striar, CEO for the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York.

Some VT Cell Customers to Be Able to Text 9-1-1

For the next six months some Vermont cellular telephone users will be able to text 911 emergency calls for help.  WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports…

Vermont's Enhanced 911 Board says that Verizon Wireless customers will be able to send a text message to 911 that will be answered at a public service answering point in Williston.

The people who receive the messages will coordinate the emergency response with the appropriate agency.
