Foundation Awards $300K To Support Arts And Humanities Programs In Columbia County Schools

Six public school districts in Columbia County, New York are receiving awards totaling $300,000 from a local foundation to strengthen arts and humanities programs.

The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation recently announced that the Ellsworth Kelly Foundation is donating the money to the Arts and Humanities Funds for the Hudson, Chatham, Germantown, New Lebanon, Ichabod Crane and Taconic Hills Central School Districts.

The money is being awarded to celebrate Columbia County-based artist Ellsworth Kelly’s 90th birthday.

Two storm deaths in New York; Long Island pounded with 30+ inches of snow

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Two deaths in upstate New York are being attributed to the storm.

State police say a 23-year-old man died when the tractor he was using to plow his driveway overturned in Columbia County Friday evening. And a 74-year-old man died when a car slid and hit him as he walked on a Poughkeepsie road.

The National Weather Service reported snowfall totals of 10-12 inches in the mid-Hudson Valley and Adirondacks; 8 inches at Buffalo; 12 inches at Rochester; 6.5 inches in suburban Albany; and 9 inches in Syracuse.

The Columbia County Council on the Arts’ 18th Annual Arts Walk is taking place September 29th through October 8th.

It begins at Olana with “Creating Landscapes in the Landscape”: a plein air paint-out, art show, and auction and continues through the week with dance performances, music, literary readings, the Annual Riverfront Artists Marketplace, the Hudson Valley Bounty’s annual Chili Fest, and more!
