III. LONG-TERM RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES
| 1. Management EEO Training |
Management level staff attended a Webinar hosted by Dow Lohnes, PLLC on June 18, 2009 regarding methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity, preventing discrimination, and compliance with the Federal Communications Commission Equal Employment Opportunity rules. | 2. Establishment of Internship Program to Assist Members of Community Acquire Broadcast Skills |
For the year 2009, WAMC’s internship program had 7 interns who worked in a variety of capacities, both full and part time hours, for which they received academic credit (unpaid).
WAMC Northeast Public Radio reaches out to colleges and Universities throughout our seven state listening area (NY, MA, VT, NH, CT, NJ, PA) and around the country by listing our available internships in college and university career centers, specific departments when applicable (i.e. communication/ broadcasting) as well as providing our own listing at WAMC's website, wamc.org.
WAMC has room for approximately 8-15 interns in our Administrative, News, National Productions, National Productions Marketing and Underwriting departments. Interns work 15-40 hours/week, depending on course requirements, for academic credit and internships are awarded (after interview and approval) on a first come, first serve basis. |
| 3. Sponsorship of at least two events in the community design to inform and educate members of the public as to employment opportunities in broadcasting |

Thursday, February 19, 2009 - Tiger Cubs (about 6 kids and 2 adults) of Albany, NY toured the station for the kids to earn their Media Merit Badges.
Friday, May 9, 2008 - University at Albany graduate class in information science toured the station as part of a group project to see how digital information is being used in radio broadcasting.
Thursday, May 21, 2009 - About 20 students from the New Visions program at the Times Union toured the station and sat for a taping of the Media Project. |
| 4. Participation in Other Activities to Further the Goal of Disseminating Employment opportunity Information to Job Candidates Who Might Otherwise Be Unaware of Such Opportunities |
"Careers in Broadcasting" flyers are regularly distributed by WAMC's Education Director to schools, teachers and students participating in the station's Youth Media Project: Student Town Meetings. Flyers are available at the taping of each Student Town Meeting at the Linda Norris Auditorium (WAMC Performing Arts Studio) and during classroom visits by WAMC personnel. The following distribution schedule occurred during calendar year 2009:
