The program is hosted by WAMC Senior Correspondent Brian Shields who has been with WAMC for 15 years as senior news anchor, host and reporter.

NYS Senator Supports Public-Private Partnership for Tappan Zee Financing

A New York State Senator is urging his colleagues in the legislature to pass a bill that he says could help finance part of the construction of the replacement Tappan Zee Bridge.

Republican Senator Greg Ball, knowing that more funding is needed to build a replacement Tappan Zee Bridge, says he wants legislators to pass a public-private partnership, or P3, bill.

Casino gambling and New York’s new gun law, the SAFE Act, have emerged as two issues in Albany sparking a good deal of debate this session. Republican State Senator Kathy Marchione, of Saratoga and Rensselaer Counties, is leading an effort to repeal the gun law passed earlier this year in New York, and the first year lawmaker is also backing a measure that would require the locations of casinos to be known before lawmakers approve a constitutional amendment to allow them on non-Indian land.

Daily Freeman Union Members Were to Vote on a Contract with Future Owner

Union members at the Ulster County, New York-based newspaper “The Daily Freeman” were scheduled to vote this evening on whether to ratify a contract with the paper’s future owner. “The Freeman”, along with other Journal Register Company papers, will belong to the new owner, reportedly next month, when the sale is expected to close.

Pittsfield Public Schools Among Few in Nation Selected for Science Competition

Pittsfield has been selected as one of only a handful of cities across the country to participate in a national science competition designed to encourage strong teaching in science. 

The “Make My LabWoRx” competition from Science WoRx, an online resource network for science educators sponsored by pharmaceutical company Astellas Pharma US, Inc. is offering the opportunity for science teachers to win lab equipment for their schools through a competition with a goal of driving innovation in the classroom.
