It's been a busy morning at the Supreme Court. Justices released several opinions, including a ruling on Arizona's controversial immigration law aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration. That law gave police broad powers to stop suspected illegal immigrants and demand their papers, but civil rights groups said it went too far and gave states too much authority over immigration policy.

This week marks the 150th anniversary of the first in a series of Civil War battles during which New York regiments would suffer thousands of casualties.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

According to historians at the New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs, the first of the Seven Days Battles occurred on June 25, 1862 when New York's Excelsior Brigade spearheaded an attack against Confederate forces outside Richmond, Va.

Several members of Connecticut's congressional delegation are calling for a stop to a planned interest rate increase on student loans.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

U.S. Representatives Joe Courtney and Rosa DeLauro will be joined by U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal for a news conference Monday at the Legislative Office Building. They're trying to draw attention to how the interest rate on subsidized Stafford student loans is set to jump from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent on July 1.

New York's attorney general says he has secured a civil settlement in which hedge fund manager J. Ezra Merkin will reimburse clients with $405 million lost in Bernard Madoff's historic investment scam.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Sunday that the clients will be paid over three years and New York state will get $5 million to cover the cost of the settlement.

Merkin had managed four funds with hundreds of investors. Schneiderman says many are New Yorkers and charitable organizations. None have been identified.

President Barack Obama is stopping in Massachusetts to raise money for his re-election campaign and fellow Democrats.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

The president's first event on Monday is a small campaign round-table at Hamersley's Bistro in Boston's South End with 25 people. Tickets cost $40,000 per person.

Obama will later speak to 1,800 people at Symphony Hall in Boston. General admission started at $250 with top seats going for $2,500. A limited number of $144 tickets were available for younger supporters.

Governor Deval Patrick will address graduates of two federal court programs aimed at helping defendants and high risk ex-offenders.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

The Court Assisted Recovery Effort program helps defendants maintain sober, employed and law-abiding lives through closer supervision and assistance.

Well the American League picked up one final victory last night in interleague action…

In Queens, Robinson Cano led off the eighth inning with his 16th home run, as the Yankees wrapped up the season’s interleague action with a 6-5 win over the Mets.  The Yankees, who took two of three from the Mets, ended R.A. Dickey’s streak off 44 and two-thirds innings without allowing an earned run.  The American League topped the National League for the ninth straight year, winning 142 of 252 interleague matchups.
