RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne with a story of a stellar MacGyvering. The International Space Station was faced with a malfunctioning electrical unit and couldn't screw down a new one because the exterior bolts were covered in debris. After two astronauts were stuck outside for hours, they hit on an idea - scrub the bolts clean with a toothbrush. Pitcher David Phelps was called for a balk last night in the Yankees' 10-6 loss to Baltimore

The resilient Baltimore Orioles regained a share of first place in the American League East, recovering from losing a five-run lead to club the Yankees 10-6 at Camden Yards. The Oriole’s four-run first inning went unanswered until the eighth when the Yanks began to show signs of a true first place team bringing in five runs. Baltimore returned the favor with four of their own in the bottom of the inning.

The Mets and Red Sox were both off yesterday. The Mets will host the Braves all weekend, Boston hosts Toronto and the Yankees get three more in Baltimore.
