President Obama said Sunday that he would convene a half-day bipartisan health care session at the White House to be televised live this month to try to break their political impasse. Is this a good idea?

Sarah LaDuke and Joe DonahueGood morning and welcome to the Roundtable... You'll hear these words on WAMC every morning at 9 am. What follows is a program with a focus as broad and diverse as our listening audience. While one day you might hear a discussion on worldwide food supplies, another program might bring an in depth interview on a recent best-seller. While the topics may vary, the constants in the program are the skill and dedication that our host and producer - Joe Donahue and Sarah LaDuke (respectively) - bring to the program each day.

These two are such amazingly talented journalists- you might even call them radio magicians- that they have managed to find the corners of our decidedly Round Table. In the Congressional Corner, Alan Chartock sits down with a different Congressman every few days to track how your local communities are being represented in Washington. In weekly Culinary Corner segments, the Roundtable team grills our fantastic local chefs for some of their best recipes and cooking techniques in the region.

And of course, where would the Roundtable be without you? Each day we choose a news topic or general topic and turn the reins of this radio wagon over to you for our live call-in segment. After all, it is ultimately your views and opinions that give this radio program life.Alan Chartock

The Roundtable is committed not only to strong and in-depth coverage of world affairs, but also to keeping you informed of what's going on in your community. Some of the finest arts institutions in the country are located in our listening area- and for a backstage pass, all you have to do is turn on your radio. Local coverage expands beyond the arts- from Beacon to Burlington our listeners are doing their part to try to improve the world around them. The Roundtable crew is privileged to be able to provide a platform for some of these groups and activists.

Each day, the broadcast is closed out by Performance Place. Some of the finest musicians in the world have stopped by to provide insight into their work with hosts Howard Glassman, Paul Elisha, Tim Coakley, Nick Barr, Wanda Fischer, and the rest of the Roundtable crew. In addition to all of this, the Roundtable brings you regular updates in the areas of law, technology, science, drama, and cinema. But of course, the most important part of the broadcast is you. Your responses, opinions and support are what keep this project moving. So stop on by- it's a big table.

Do you have a great idea for a Roundtable segment? Or a short essay that would be just perfect for the show? Send it to Sarah LaDuke.  As the producer of the show, she handles all of the scheduling and sorts through and evaluates the requests that come in. Please be patient, she does her best to respond to everyone - but the requests coming in are numerous and frequent.
