  This Thursday at 4 p.m., The Mount in Lenox, Massachusetts presents Women Writing Through Loss: Connecting Through Calamity featuring Dr. Lucy Kalanithi, Rebecca Soffer, and Emily Rapp Black as they read from their work and discuss the power of connection as friends, as writers, as mothers, and as women who forged powerful friendships after experiencing great personal loss, and writing their way out of it.

 

Rebecca Soffer joined us to tell us more.

Rebecca Soffer is a writer and co-founder of Modern Loss, a website providing candid conversation on grief and resilience. Her book, co-authored with the same title, is forthcoming from HarperCollins in January 2018.

 

Lucy Kalanithi is the widow of Dr. Paul Kalanithi, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller When Breath Becomes Air, to which she wrote the epilogue. She completed her medical degree at Yale and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Stanford School of Medicine.

Emily Rapp Blackis the author of Poster Child: A Memoir, and The Still Point of the Turning World, which was a New York Times bestseller. Her next book, Casa Azul Cripple, is forthcoming in 2018. The recent recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Rapp Black is Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at the University of California-Riverside.

Sarah has been a public radio producer for over fifteen years. She grew up in Saranac Lake, New York where she worked part-time at Pendragon Theatre all through high school and college. She graduated from UAlbany in 2006 with a BA in English and started at WAMC a few weeks later as a part-time board-op in the control room. Through a series of offered and seized opportunities she is now the Senior Contributing Producer of The Roundtable and Producer of The Book Show. During the main thrust of the Covid-19 pandemic shut-down, Sarah hosted a live Instagram interview program "A Face for Radio Video Series." On it, Sarah spoke with actors, musicians, comedians, and artists about the creative activities they were accomplishing and/or missing.
