Westchester Has Its First Human Case Of West Nile

MassDPH

Westchester County has its first human case of West Nile Virus this year.

A 71-old Larchmont resident has been hospitalized after contracting West Nile Virus. So far this year, three positive mosquito batches were identified in Westchester, starting July 24 – one in New Rochelle and two in Mount Vernon. West Nile Virus infection most often causes a mild or moderate flu-like illness, but can be more serious and potentially fatal in people 50 and older, and  those with other health complications. Last year, seven positive mosquito batches were found in Westchester and two human cases of West Nile Virus were reported.
