Vt. Town Considers Adding Recall To Charter

Voters in the Vermont town of St. Johnsbury will be weighing in on a proposal that would allow them to recall local elected officials.

The town is planning to hold two public hearings on the proposal ahead of the voting on the issue on Town Meeting Day in March.

The first hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27.

Earlier this year a citizens' committee petitioned for a special vote on adopting a recall provision, but missed a deadline and the effort failed.

The Caledonian Record reports the committee planned to petition again if the select board refused to place the issue before voters in March.

A number of Vermont communities have recall provisions in their charters.
