University at Albany President Robert Jones has responded to an alleged racially-based attack on a group of students on a bus.

Jones said three students, all black women, were harassed and assaulted while riding a CDTA bus in Albany early Saturday morning. The students described the perpetrators as a group of 10 to 12 white males and females.

Jones said he was "deeply concerned, saddened and angry" about the incident and cut a trip short to return to Albany.

The University is working with the Albany Police Department to identify those responsible.

Jones said university police, student affairs personnel, and Office of Diversity and Inclusion staff are working to support the victims.

Students are planning a rally on campus Monday at 5:30 p.m. in response to the incident.
