Torch Relay For Empire State Winter Games To Cross Walkway

Fred Schaeffer, Walkway Over the Hudson

A pedestrian bridge in the Hudson Valley is the site Tuesday morning of a torch relay ahead of the Empire State Winter Games in Lake Placid.

A torch relay will pass over Walkway Over the Hudson around 8:30, at Walkway’s center overlook. The flame is being passed from Battery Park in New York City to Lake Placid leading up to the opening of the Empire State Winter Games, which kick off Thursday and run until Sunday, February 4. A local runner carrying the torch will transfer it to another runner. A significant portion of the Torch Relay route between New York City and Albany follows the future route of the Empire State Trail, and Walkway State Park will serve as a central link of the trail proposed last year by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
