The two top officials at Massachusetts’ Department of Conservation and Recreation were placed on unpaid leave for a week for the inappropriate use of public resources at a private party.Commissioner Leo Roy and deputy Matthew Sisk threw a party at the home of GOP national committeeman Ron Kaufman on July 3. Guests were transported to festivities at the Hatch Shell in Boston by taxpayer-funded golf carts driven by state employees. State staffers also compiled the guest list and created invitations.

Republican Gov. Charlie Baker says he didn't know about the party and wasn't invited but said the suspensions send "exactly the right message."

An agency spokesman says the use of state resources was "entirely inappropriate." Roy and Sisk have reimbursed the state and agreed to ethics training.
