As Stewart Leaves 'Daily Show,' Nostalgia In Both Parties

Comedy Central

Jon's Stewart's celebrated and long tenure as host of The Daily Show is coming to an end tonight. After 16 years, it's his last night on Comedy Central.

Over the years, Stewart has skewered everybody from George W. Bush to Arby's, Barack Obama to any number of hypocritical politicians, and the news media, of course. But it turns out Stewart wasn't always commenting just from the sidelines, at least not strictly. Senior Policy Reporter Darren Samuelsohn with Politico reportedin recent days that Stewart met with the president at the White House twice, and had contact with White House aides.

In his seventh and final appearance on the show, President Obama said, "I can't believe you're leaving before me."

A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian joined WAMC in late 2008 and became news director in 2013. He began working on Morning Edition and has produced The Capitol Connection, Congressional Corner, and several other WAMC programs. Ian can also be heard as the host of the WAMC News Podcast and on The Roundtable and various newscasts. Ian holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013.
