Stewards Intercept Hydrilla At Upper Saranac Lake

Boat stewards intercepted a boat last weekend with a fast growing aquatic invasive species and prevented its incursion into an Adirondack lake.

Two watercraft inspectors at the Saranac Inn State Boat Launch detected and removed hydrilla from a boat before it entered Upper Saranac Lake.  Referred to as Eurasion water milfoil on steroids, a multi-million dollar hydrilla control effort is underway on Cayuga Lake.

This is the first confirmed instance of hydrilla detected and removed in the history of the Adirondack Park's aquatic invasive species prevention efforts.

The inspection station is one of 60 in the Adirondack region where stewards perform boat inspections.
