The Vermont Department of Taxes has filed a $1 million lawsuit against the founder of the Hermitage Club properties for not paying taxes.
The lawsuit filed July 30 accuses Hermitage Club founder Jim Barnes of not paying meals and rooms, and sales and use taxes.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports Assistant Attorney General Elizabeth Hannon previously shut down several Hermitage Club properties in March for failing to pay taxes.

Barnes previously said that he is pursuing a deal with New York-based Oz Real Estate that would help clear his debt and settle lawsuits.

He is facing separate litigation involving Berkshire Bank, which filed a foreclosure complaint against Hermitage in February.
