NBA:

In the NBA, Portland bested Oklahoma City 126-121, Dallas beat the Lakers 122-111, and it was Washington over Phoenix 131-127.

Longtime agent Rob Pelinka has been formally hired as the Los Angeles Lakers' new general manager. Pelinka got the job shortly after Lakers owner Jeanie Buss fired GM Mitch Kupchak and her brother, Jim, as the club's top basketball executives last month. The team waited to announce the hiring until Pelinka complied with NBA rules against conflicts of interest, in part by transferring responsibility for his clients to other agents in his firm, Landmark Sports Agency.

Dirk Nowitzki has become the sixth NBA player and first international player to score 30,000 points. The Dallas superstar got 18 of the 20 points he needed in the first quarter against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night, and hit the milestone on a fadeaway jumper with 10:58 left in the second quarter. He added a 3-pointer for 23 points in the first 14 minutes before the game was stopped.

The 7-foot German, in his 19th season, is the third to score at least 30,000 points with one team. The others are Karl Malone (Utah) and Kobe Bryant (Lakers). The 30,000 list includes four Hall of Famers in career leader Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points), Malone, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain, and a future one in Bryant, who is third. Julius Erving also reached the milestone with his ABA career included.

NHL:

In the NHL, the Rangers topped Florida 5-2, Columbus blanked New Jersey 2-0, Philadelphia doubled up Buffalo 6-3, the Islanders beat Edmonton 4-1, Anaheim defeated Nashville in a shootout 4-3, Montreal won against Vancouver in overtime 2-1, Colorado bested Carolina 3-1, St. Louis slid past Minnesota 2-1, and it was Toronto over Detroit 3-2.

NHL general managers want to keep things as they are — for now. But while league officials are fully expecting at least one rule to cause consternation in the playoffs, general managers opted against recommending changes to it or anything else on the second day of meetings in Boca Raton, Fla., on Tuesday. Arizona Coyotes general manager John Chayka said, "Like anything, it's better to move slow."

Among the issues of most intrigue was the offside element of the coach's challenge, which was introduced at the start of the 2015-16 season. Colin Campbell, the NHL's senior executive vice president of hockey operations, said it was almost certain to bubble into controversy during the postseason.

NCAA:

Gonzaga has won another West Coast Conference tournament title, defeating St. Mary's 74-56 after nearly pulling off an undefeated regular season. Next up for the Zags could be another No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga shot 50 percent and scored 20 points off turnovers in its lopsided win over the Gaels of St. Mary's, 28-4. Nigel Williams-Goss led Gonzaga with 22 points.

Boston College star guard Ky Bowman is out for the second half of the Eagles' opening round game of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Tuesday after injuring his right leg. Bowman tried to contest a shot late in the first half and landed awkwardly. He stayed down on the count for several moments and before athletic trainers helped him get to the locker room while keeping weight off his leg.

A federal judge has ruled that a lawsuit filed against Baylor University by 10 women alleging they were sexually assaulted can go forward. The women, identified as "Jane Doe" plaintiffs, allege that Baylor was indifferent to or ignored claims of sexual assault and didn't enforce federal general discrimination protections.

University of Oregon football co-offensive coordinator David Reaves spent little more than a day on the job but was paid more than $60,000. The Register-Guard reported Tuesday that Reaves received $3,750 for 26 hours of work when he resigned Feb. 3 after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to UO documents obtained by the Register-Guard through a public records request, he also received a payment of $60,000. UO announced it hired Reaves on Jan. 17. Reaves had a two-year contract with an annual salary of $300,000. On Jan. 22, Reaves was arrested by Eugene police and charged with DUI, reckless driving and reckless endangerment. A plea hearing is scheduled for March 13. UO put Reaves on leave and was terminating his contract when he resigned.

NFL:

The Buffalo Bills have extended contract offers in retaining the rights to running back Mike Gillislee and offensive lineman Ryan Groy. The moves announced Tuesday give the Bills the right to match any offers teams make to the two restricted free agents.

The NFL has suspended New York Jets receiver Jalin Marshall for the first four games of the 2017 season for violating the league's policy on performance enhancers. The suspension of the second-year player from Ohio State was announced Tuesday.

The New York Giants are raising the average cost of non-club regular-season tickets by 4 percent. The Giants announced the increase Tuesday in an email to season ticket holders. The email said all club seat prices remain the same as last season. They range from $160-$725.

In other NFL moves:

— The Atlanta Falcons say wide receiver Julio Jones is expected to be ready for the start of training camp after having minor foot surgery. Jones had the procedure on Monday and posted on his Twitter account: "Surgery was a success! Thanks to all that prayed for me."

— The Los Angeles Chargers have released cornerback Brandon Flowers, offensive lineman D.J. Fluker and receiver Stevie Johnson. Flowers spent three seasons with the Chargers after making the Pro Bowl and leaving Kansas City in 2013. He appeared in just six games last year while dealing with a concussion.

— The San Francisco 49ers have released receiver Torrey Smith. Smith had just 20 catches for 267 yards last season before missing the final three games with a concussion. In two seasons with the 49ers, he never became the deep threat that he had been with the Ravens when he helped Baltimore beat San Francisco in the Super Bowl following the 2012 season.

— Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman Joe Reitz has announced his retirement. The 31-year-old Reitz played nine seasons in the NFL, the last six with his hometown team. Last season, he started six games on a line that paved the way for Frank Gore to become Indy's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2007.

— The Carolina Panthers have extended a contract offer to restricted free agent guard Andrew Norwell to retain his rights for next season. They've also extended contract offers to two exclusive rights free agents — punter Michael Palardy and center Tyler Larsen. In addition, Carolina re-signed safety Colin Jones and wide receiver Brenton Bersin. They did not offer a contract to restricted free agent wide receiver Philly Brown.

Sports Media:

After spending two postseasons as a guest studio analyst for Fox, Alex Rodriguez is expanding his role for the network. A-Rod will be a game analyst and feature reporter for the network and FS1 and will continue to work in the studio, the network said Tuesday in announcing a multiyear deal.

MLB:

In baseball spring training, the Yankees beat Tampa Bay 7-6 in 10 innings and Boston won against Washington 5-3.

World Baseball Classic:

Ryan Lavarnway hit a two-run homer in the third inning and Nate Freiman added a three-run shot in the ninth to help Israel beat Taiwan 15-7 Tuesday and improve to 2-0 in the World Baseball Classic. Israel's batters chased Taiwan starter Chun-Lin Kuo from the game before he could secure his third out, opening the top of the first with four straight hits and tagging Kuo for four runs in the frame. Israel entered the tournament ranked No. 41 by the World Baseball Softball Confederation and has already beaten third-ranked South Korea and fourth-ranked Taiwan.
