Skidmore Students Rally For Mental Health

Skidmore College students are demanding more resources for mental health on the Saratoga Springs campus.

Students Alexandra Marella and Valerie Janovic held a rally Tuesday after collecting 40,000 signatures on an online petition.

Janovic says the students are asking for more mental health professionals on campus as well as a 24-hour counselor for sudden crises.

“You should be able to get help immediately or within 24 hours,”Janovic says.

The college says a 24-hour counselor is unaffordable, but that it’s in the process of hiring a fifth full-time counselor and is working with an outside firm to provide 24-hour telephone mental health support for students.
