Scenic Hudson Preserves Land In Ulster County

Scenic Hudson

An environmental group has ensured the protection of 80 acres of land in New York’s Ulster County. It’s part of the group’s Save the Land That Matters Most campaign.

Poughkeepsie-based Scenic Hudson has acquired a conservation easement ensuring the permanent protection of 80 acres of farm fields and woods in Esopus. Seth McKee is Scenic Hudson land conservation director. He says Riverhill Farm is within the Esopus-Lloyd Scenic Area of Statewide Significance.

“In the towns of Esopus and Lloyd you’ve got very scenic and ecologically-significant ridges and also good farmland below those ridges.”

The acquisition also preserves views of the farm from across the Hudson River, from the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. The easement ensures that the property will remain in private ownership and on the tax rolls. It also means the land always will be available for agriculture.
