Report: Women In Albany Out-Earn Men

wikipedia

When it comes to bringing home the bacon, some women in the Capital Region are doing it better than men –

The difference in wages for men and women across America has often been the subject of headlines – and debate – but a report appearing on the personal finance website nerdwallet.com reveals women in Albany earn 111.3 percent of men's wages. That figure makes the Capital city one of just 22 nationwide where women earn equal or higher salaries than men. In compiling its report, the website used data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey in 2005 and 2013 to rank cities in three unique ways to examine the gender wage gap across the U.S. and how it changed during that timeframe.

Dave Lucas is WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief. Born and raised in Albany, he’s been involved in nearly every aspect of local radio since 1981. Before joining WAMC, Dave was a reporter and anchor at WGY in Schenectady. Prior to that he hosted talk shows on WYJB and WROW, including the 1999 series of overnight radio broadcasts tracking the JonBenet Ramsey murder case with a cast of callers and characters from all over the world via the internet. In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.
