The Massachusetts economy expanded at a torrid pace in the second quarter of this year, according to a report released Friday.
The 7.3 percent growth in the state’s economy reported by the journal MassBenchmarks surprised many economists, including Robert Nakosteen of the Isenberg School at UMass Amherst. But, he said it is not an illusion.
" Employment has grown. In the state, not in the nation, for the first time in a long time we've had robust wage growth," Nakosteen said in an interview Friday.
" There's a lot going on in the economy and it seems to all be good."
The unemployment rate in Massachusetts remains at a near historical low of 3.5 percent – unchanged since March.
Nationally real gross domestic product grew at a 4.1 percent annual rate in the second quarter, the federal government reported Friday.
