Report: Artist Owes Money For Cancelled Renovation Project In Hudson

A New York City-based artist has scrapped plans to overhaul a 33,000 square foot building in Hudson into an arts center.

The New York Post reports performance artist Marina Abramovic raised $2.2 million for the planned Marina Abramovic Institute for the Preservation of Performance Art on the site of a former theater.

Abramovic reportedly backed out of the project after costs ballooned to $31 million. The newspaper says the artist's non-profit owes more than $15,000 in local school taxes for the 84-year-old building.

A spokeswoman said Abramovic plans to sell the building and will use proceeds pay the tax bill.
