Two Rensselaer County legislators are running against each other in a special election to fill a vacant state Assembly seat.

Republican Jake Ashby and Democrat Cynthia Doran will appear on the ballot on April 24th to fill the vacant seat in the 107th District. The post was left vacant after former Republican Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin was elected County Executive. He assumed the role in January.

McLaughlin served in the Assembly for 7 years.

Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo has called for the special election to fill 11 vacant Senate and Assembly seats across the state.
