As New York state nears a final decision on the fate of a 119-mile rail corridor through the Adirondacks, owners of a new tourist attraction are fighting plans to convert part of the corridor to a multi-use trail.
A pedal-powered rail bike business called Adirondack Rail Explorers says it has had more than 10,000 customers since it opened in the Saranac Lake area in July. Owners are urging customers to lobby the governor to keep those rails open.

But the state has proposed converting 34 miles of track from Tupper Lake to Lake Placid into a multiuse trail and extending the route of a tourist train at the southeastern part of the corridor.

A final decision is expected by the end of the year.
