A Democratic New York State Assemblyman from Queens has died.
Michael Simanowitz of the 27th District died Saturday of an illness.
Democratic Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie of the Bronx said in a statement Simanowitz served with “dedication and passion” and said he would remember his friend for his “quick wit and intelligence.”
Governor Andrew Cuomo, also a Democrat, said he and Simanowitz “shared a love for our home borough of Queens and a belief in public service as a vehicle for positive change.”
Simanowitz leaves behind a wife and four daughters. He was 45.
