A Democratic New York State Assemblyman from Queens has died.

Democratic Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie of the Bronx said in a statement Simanowitz served with “dedication and passion” and said he would remember his friend for his “quick wit and intelligence.”

Governor Andrew Cuomo, also a Democrat, said he and Simanowitz “shared a love for our home borough of Queens and a belief in public service as a vehicle for positive change.”
