A Vermont psychiatric hospital has started a media campaign to raise public awareness of mental illness.
The Brattleboro Retreat calls the campaign "Stand Up to Stigma."

President and CEO Rob Simpson tells the Brattleboro Reformer it's important for families, friends and employers to understand how far the medical community has come in finding treatments for mental illness.

He said people will get treatment more quickly if myths about mental illness are reduced.
