Ray Bradbury’s internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 is a masterwork of twentieth-century literature set in a bleak, dystopian future. It is also the choice for Poughkeepsie’s Big Read.
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden.
To talk about the book and the big read we welcome - Angela Laflen, Associate Professor of English at Marist College. Angela is speaking for The Big Read on Sunday, October 26, on how Fahrenheit 451 launched a genre, and Bradbury's focus on technology in this book.
And Jewel Ratzlaff joins us. She is the Poughkeepsie Public Library District Public Information Officer and Big Read Coordinator of Big Read events across the Mid-Hudson region.
