Pipeline Opponents To Demonstrate In New Paltz

Pilgrim Holdings, LLC

Opponents of the proposed Pilgrim Pipeline will gather for a demonstration in Ulster County Tuesday afternoon.

Demonstrators in New Paltz say they will demand that the New York State Thruway Authority and Department of Transportation deny Pilgrim permission to build the pipeline. Pilgrim has proposed construction of parallel pipelines from Albany to Linden, New Jersey, saying the majority of the route would run along existing rights of way along the Thruway. Opponents, who say the pipelines would carry Bakken Shale crude oil south and refined products north, will gather at 4 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and South Putt Corners Road, near the Thruway Bridge. The demonstration follows resolutions recently passed in the Towns of New Paltz and Rosendale opposing the pipeline.
