NYS Budget Negotiations Continue Sunday

New York State Capitol
Karen DeWitt

It’s another day of negotiations at the New York State Capitol today as lawmakers were unable to reach a budget agreement with Governor Andrew Cuomo on Saturday.

After missing the budget deadline at midnight Friday, Cuomo early Saturday granted the Democrat-led Assembly and Republican-held Senate a “grace period” to reach a budget deal by the end of the weekend.

But if things do not go so smoothly today, Cuomo has said he would submit an emergency extender bill for the FY 2017 budget.

Among high-profile issues in the budget are criminal justice reform, or “raise the age”, and bringing ride-sharing services outside of New York City.
