New York state troopers have shot and killed a man they say was brandishing a pair of knives on a road in Albany County.
The shooting occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the town of Berne after New York State Police received a report of a man threatening to attack anyone who approached him.
Police said in a statement on Saturday that two troopers encountered 51-year-old Carl Baranishyn as he was carrying a knife in each hand. They said the troopers opened fire after the man refused numerous orders to stop approaching them and drop the knives. He died at the scene.
State police and the Albany County district attorney's office are investigating.
