NY: 180 NY school districts lack teacher evaluations

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that even though many of the state's more than 600 districts haven't yet complied, he won't extend the Jan. 17 deadline to have plans in place.

The state education department says Tuesday that 442 school districts have approved plans to evaluate teachers and principals as part of a program to improve instruction.

The districts without final plans include two dozen that haven't submitted proposals. New York City is among them.

Districts that don't comply will lose a 4-percent increase in state aid.
