New Yorkers Offered Temporary Homes in Connecticut

Residents of Staten Island, New York, who were driven from their homes by Superstorm Sandy will be offered temporary housing in Connecticut. 

Officials announced a plan Wednesday to provide about 25 homes on property owned by Faith Church in New Milford. They hope to have the families living in the homes by Christmas and plan to provide families with food, schooling and other services.

The initiative involves New Fairfield First Selectman John Hodge and Faith Church pastor Frank Santora, both former Staten Islanders, as well as the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

The foundation, founded in memory of Staten Island firefighter Stephen Siller, who was killed in the Sept. 11 attacks, is administering a Sandy relief fund.
