The New York State Department of Health this week released the results of a cancer study in Hoosick Falls.

The Rensselaer County village’s water sources were contaminated with the chemical PFOA, which has been linked to various forms of cancers.

But the results of the study, which looked at data from 1995 through 2014, did not show statistically significant rates of illnesses typically associated with PFOA exposure.

To help explain the purpose of the study, WAMC’s Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard spoke with Brad Hutton, Deputy Commissioner of the DOH Office of Public Health.

Officials will be made available to answer questions at the Hoosick Falls Armory at the following times:

  • Wednesday, June 7: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Thursday, June 8: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Friday, June 9: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Saturday, June 10: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • Sunday, June 11: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • Monday, June 12: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Tuesday, June 13: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Lucas Willard is a reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011.
