Montana Governor Succeeds Shumlin As Democratic Governors' Chair

Montana Governor Steve Bullock was elected chairman of the Democratic Governors Association at its annual meeting in Los Angeles Tuesday succeeding Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin.

Shumlin who served as chair of the Democratic Governors Association for 2013 and 2014 said during his leadership democrats had recruited strong candidates, raised more money than ever, and elected strong Democratic governors in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

But Democrats also lost governors' races in Democratic-leaning states like Massachusetts, Maryland and Illinois.

Montana’s Bullock will chair the group next year and be followed by Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy in 2016.
