A new director has been picked for the second-largest public housing authority in Massachusetts.
Denise Jordan, who has been chief of staff for Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno since he took office a decade ago, has been appointed executive director of the Springfield Housing Authority.
"I am so excited about the new opportunity, but I am very saddened by the thought of leaving the city," Jordan said in an interview Wednesday. " I absolutely love being chief of staff. I love working with the residents and I am really going to miss this position."
Jordan said she is planning new initiatives to improve the quality of life for the more than 5,000 families who reside in public housing in Springfield.
She will succeed Hank Abrashkin, who semi-retired last August after nine years running the housing authority.
He took over the agency when it was mired in corruption and scandal.
