Massachusetts wants Conte Community School in Pittsfield to improve its accountability data.

For roughly a year now, the city’s public school district has been working closely with the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to turn around its lackluster academic achievement numbers.

Pittsfield is receiving a $600,000 state grant over the next two years to pay for teachers to stay after school and give additional instruction to individual pupils.

The grant will also provide professional development programs for teachers for the next two summers.
