Marvin Laird And Cubby O'Brien

Alan Chartock, Marvin Laird, Cubby O'Brien, and Joe Donahue

Since the 1960’s, Marvin Laird has conducted and/or written dance and vocal arrangements for over two dozen Broadway and West End Shows, including the award-winning production of Annie Get Your Gun, and the 2003 Broadway revival of Gypsy, both starring Ms. Bernadette Peters who he will perform with on the SPAC stage tonight. In the early Sixties, he was assistant conductor for a National tour of Gypsy, which also featured a child actress named … Bernadette Peters. The rest is history.

Footnotes to that history include Mr. Laird’s writing dance music for two Academy Award films, Hello, Dolly and New York, New York, scoring Dynasty, The Love Boat and Quincy. His musical, Ruthless! – co-written with Joel Paley is currently running off-Broadway.

Marvin Laird will be on stage with Ms. Peters tonight – as will drummer Cubby O’Brien. Cubby has been playing drums for Bernadette Peters since 1968. He’s also accompanied numerous other mega-talents including Debbie Reynolds, Connie Francis, Ben Vereen, and many others. Oh, and he was an original Mouseketeer on The Mickey Mouse Club.

Dr. Alan Chartock is professor emeritus at the University at Albany. He hosts the weekly Capitol Connection series, heard on public radio stations around New York. The program, for almost 12 years, highlighted interviews with Governor Mario Cuomo and now continues with conversations with state political leaders. Dr. Chartock also appears each week on The Media Project and The Roundtable and offers commentary on Morning Edition, weekdays at 7:40 a.m.
Joe talks to people on the radio for a living. In addition to countless impressive human "gets" - he has talked to a lot of Muppets. Joe grew up in Philadelphia, has been on the area airwaves for more than 25 years and currently lives in Washington County, NY with his wife, Kelly, and their dog, Brady. And yes, he reads every single book.
