Human remains were found at John Boyd Thacher State Park on Saturday.

Authorities responded to a call around 6:42 p.m. after a hiker traveling off-trail made the discovery.

A State Parks spokesman says items including an ID, wallet and backpack belonging to Bruce Decker of Guilderland were located at the scene.  An official cause of death and identification have yet to be determined by the Albany County Medical Examiner's Office.

A search effort was launched in Februrary for 71-year-old Decker after his vehicle was found parked at Thacher. The search was suspended in March.

The park's popular Indian Ladder Trail, which reopened Saturday, was closed again as authorities investigated. It was reopened Sunday morning.

The trail had been closed for safety improvements after a woman was injured by a falling rock last year.
