After first announcing its exit from Fort Edward last October, General Electric has pushed back the closure of its capacitor manufacturing facility until May.
According to the Post-Star, GE says it will not close the Fort Edward plant until the last person leaves, estimated for May 31st. The company is in the process of moving capacitor manufacturing operations to a new facility in Clearwater, Florida.
The last remaining employee will reportedly be left in charge of all "final decommissioning activities." The Fort Edward facility began operating in the 1940s and once employed around 2,700 workers.
