Three former University at Albany students accused of lying about a racially-charged brawl on a CDTA bus were back on court on Wednesday.
Asha Burwell, Ariel Agudio, and Alexis Briggs appeared in Albany County Court before Judge Stephen Herrick on an indictment accusing them of assault and other charges including falsely claiming they were victims of a racial attack, stemming from a fight on board a CDTA bus in January.
The 20-year olds were indicted on Monday by a county grand jury after turning down an offer to publicly apologize for the incident, which has rippled across the UAlbany campus.
All pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning. Attorneys Frederick Brewington and Mark Mishler spoke afterward. "We're not gonna discuss specific strategies at this time."
The lawyers are due back in court May 26th and a trial is expected to be held in late summer or early fall. Albany County District Attorney David Soares issued a release indicating A tentative trial date has been scheduled for September 26, 2016. The full release follows:
