Education Aid Heads To The Hudson Valley

New York’s 2015-2016 budget includes a $1.6 billion increase in education aid over last year. WAMC’s Allison Dunne tells us about how a few Hudson Valley school districts will benefit.

Democratic Assemblywoman Didi Barrett, says schools in her district, which includes portions of Columbia and Dutchess Counties, will see aid increase by $9.6 million, or 4.1 percent. As for Democratic Assemblyman Kevin Cahill’s district, Cahill says Ulster County schools will receive a nearly $8.7 million increase, while in Dutchess, nearly one million dollars in additional aid is headed to Red Hook and Rhinebeck. In Democratic Assemblywoman Sandy Galef’s district, she highlights one Westchester school district.

“I had one school district, Ossining, that got a 19 percent increase. They got additional foundation aid. They have an increase in school population. They had kids coming in with greater needs.”
