Cynthia Nixon: Democrats Need To Let Black Women Lead Party

cynthiafornewyork.com
Cynthia Nixon is trying to unseat Andrew Cuomeo, the two-term Democratic governor of New York.

Democratic New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon appeared in her first nationally broadcast television interview Wednesday.

On "The Wendy Williams Show," taped Tuesday in Manhattan,  Nixon said the election of President Donald Trump served as a “wake-up call” for getting into politics.

Nixon is challenging second-term Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The "Sex and the City" star warned black women, whom she characterized as the "cornerstone" and "backbone" of the Democratic Party,  will stop showing up for the party "if the Democratic Party doesn't start showing up for them."

Her comment came after she mentioned that Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who leads the Senate's mainstream Democrats, wasn't included in the so-called "four men in a room" state budget negotiations.
