Cops: 2 Men Climbed On, Damaged Saratoga's New Horse Statue

Police say a 23-year-old man has been charged with causing about $6,000 in damage to a thoroughbred statue unveiled in a Saratoga Springs park last summer.

Officers say they received a call around 4:30 a.m. Friday from a motorist reporting a man sitting on top of the statue of Native Dancer located in Congress Park.

Julius Simmons was found nearby. Officials say surveillance video shows him and another man on top of the statue, rocking it back and forth on its base and kicking out decorative lights.

Simmons was charged with criminal mischief. He's being held in jail on $5,000 bail. Officials didn't know if he had a lawyer.

The second man hasn't been charged.

The donated statue was unveiled Aug. 1 to celebrate Saratoga's centennial as an incorporated city.
