Conservation Groups Will Share $5 Million USDA Grant For Connecticut River Initiatives

The Connecticut River as it winds through Massachusetts

Several organizations are sharing a 5-year, nearly $5 million grant from the USDA that will fund conservation projects in the four-state Connecticut River Watershed.

The projects are aimed at improving water quality, fish and wildlife habitat and climate resilience.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Kim Lutz, director of The Nature Conservancy’s Connecticut River Program.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
