A Celebration of the Yaddo Festivals of American Music

Yaddo is an artists' community located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York that offers residencies to professional creative artists from all nations and backgrounds working in one or more of the following media: choreography, film, literature, musical composition, painting, performance art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video.

This year marks an important milestone in Yaddo’s contribution to 20th century American music – the 80th anniversary of the first of the Yaddo Festivals of American Music and the 60th anniversary of the final program in the history-making concert series that drew national attention to Saratoga Springs.

In all, nine festivals were presented at Yaddo between 1932 and 1952, featuring works by 137 composers, 18 of which went on to win Pulitzer Prizes, including nine of the first 11 composers ever awarded the music prize.

This Sunday, September 9th - the Saratoga Springs Public Library will bring these famous festivals back to life in “A Celebration of the Yaddo Festivals of American Music,” a free, public program from 2 to 4 p.m.

This special program will feature Yaddo composer Daron Hagen who joins us to tell us more.
