Berkshire County District Attorney David Capeless marked the start of his third full term Tuesday afternoon taking the oath of office before a crowd of area law enforcement leaders at Berkshire Superior Court in Pittsfield. He calls the past year tiring and tough as his office secured three life sentences in the murder trials of Adam Lee Hall, David Chalue and Caius Veiovis.

“I pledge to continue to serve the public insuring that justice is obtained in a manner that is both fair and even-handed, holding the guilty accountable while protecting the innocent and preserving the dignity of victims and their families,” Capeless said. “I fully expect that you will all hold me to that pledge.”

Capeless says he wants to increase community outreach and continue fighting heroin addiction.

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney appointed Capeless in 2004 following the sudden death of District Attorney Gerard Downing. Capeless, a Democrat, won a special election that fall and has run unopposed twice since.
